Austin Top 50 Date Night Ideas  - Page 4 of 4

Some time ago, I received a few requests for ideas for the older crowd looking for a fun date night.  So I culled my list of all the kid-related stuff, and pulled out some of the ones that were best for a date night...  Just a few ideas.  Maybe 15.

And then I kept getting comments asking where the rest of the 50 ideas were.

Wait, I thought, this isn't the Top 50 list, this is date night ideas... My top 50 list is here

But after enough people made comments, I finally hunkered down and put together a list of 50 date night ideas.  So here is the last page - with Austin's Top 50 date nights listed. Enjoy!

And please feel free to email me with any additional date night ideas for Austin, as well.

36 ●● Check out the Stars at UT
Most people don’t know that the UT astronomy department hosts regular star parties. A star party is a two-hour period where anyone can come to the roof of RLM (one of the tallest buildings on campus) and look through the telescopes. You’ll get a great nighttime view of UT campus.

37 ●● Watch a movie in style at Violet Crown
The Violet Crown is a locally owned cinema showing indie, documentary & foreign films, with reserved seating, bar & cafe.  It is smaller and more intimate than your typical movie house, with only about twenty seats per screen.  So, if you want to go to a movie with your date, why not do it in style?

38 ●● Try karaoke
Want a fun night, full of laughter?  Try karaoke. There are lots of places in town to enjoy.  The Highball has seven themed karaoke rooms ranging from 8-bit wonderland to heavy metal church to, well, the Black Lodge from Twin Peaks. Ego's, called Austin's best karaoke bar by some, this dive-like bar has nightly karaoke and friendly people.  Or check out Austin Karaoke with its private rooms and BYOB policy.

39 ●● Check out a Texas Roller Derby
A spectacle from the very beginning, TXRD has grown into the perfect blend of the “Keep Austin Weird” attitude and a freewheeling pursuit of fun and competition. Skaters range from ages 2145 and come from all walks of life to form the league’s five teams - Holy Rollers, Hellcats, Putas del Fuego, Cherry Bombs and Rhinestone Cowgirls. TXRD is skater owned and operated and each member plays a roll in the continued success of the league. Our plans for the future are big and our dreams are bigger.

40 ●● Join a Social Bike Ride
Social Cycling ATX brings Austin cyclists of all types together to share their love of riding bikes. They typically ride to various locations where they can socialize, swim, play games or just hang out, then ride some more before arriving at a host barFind more at twitter.com/SocCyclingATX.

43 ●● Climb Mount Bonnell
Always a fun and free thing to do - climb the steps at Mount Bonnell,  take a quick hike along the ridge and enjoy one of the best views in Austin (though, admittedly, not as good as it use to be, since construction of the house beside it!).  Afterwards, check out the art gallery at Laguna Gloria.

One of Austin's newest and most interesting places is the East Side.  Park in the paid parking lot at I-35, and walk east.  East Sixth has a number of bars, including The Liberty, Rio Rita, Violet Crown Social Club, Shangri-La, Cheer Up Charlie's and more.

47 ●● Drink Bloody Marys at Casino El Camino
There is certainly some debate about who has the best Bloody Mary in Austin.  Casino El Camino has bloody marys on a spiciness scale - and the drink may seem more like a meal than a beverage...  Pair it up with a burger, and you ahve a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon

  2. Also worth mentioning is the Historic Paramount Theater on Congress. Take a trip back in time to a historic restored theater and watch an old classic, like Casa Blanca or Gone with the Wind.
